The state of this blog has left me in despair!

I’ve been a bad blogger, haven’t I? Not writing for long periods of time and finally posting stuff that isn’t horribly engaging. Oh, well. It’s a trap that a lot of bloggers fall into. This last week, though, I’ve been sick and had tons of stuff to do between tests and study abroad preparation.

Talk about which, I’ve gotten into Ritsumeikan Kyoto for next semester if everything goes smoothly, which I have no doubt it will. What this means for the blog, though, is that once I get there, I’ll hopefully switch to a journal-style recount of experiences while there in addition to the continuance of anime updates you’ve grown unaccustomed to.

Also, my professional writing major friend and I are going to start work on a visual novel project (non-ero, sorry), so I’ll probably give some updates and character designs for that as we get them done. I’m looking forward to this mostly because I’ve got an extended (read: 4 month) winter break before I go to Japan, and he’s got the same break since he’s headed to Yunnan province, China at the same time.

As far as animes go, though, I’ve got a couple of must-watch recommendations for the current season, some of them updates on promising series I talked about before (links are posted): Kannagi, Gundam 00, Nodame Cantabile Paris-hen, Toaru Majutsu no Index, and Chaos;Head. Each of them has come along strong and shows promise. Kannagi is only a half-season, though, which makes me a bit sad. However, it’s a strong season, and you’d be shortchanging yourself as a viewer by not at least checking a couple of them out.

I’d have liked this post to be longer, but sadly I’ve got Japanese homework to do before getting to bed at some ungodly hour. Wish me luck!

  1. I was extremely disappointed with the way Nodame Cantabile Paris-hen turned out. It lacks the main driving force that made the first season so good: the music. There’s hardly any featured music in the series, which is pretty sad for a series about musicians. To be sure, it has a high pillar of greatness to live up to, but the structure has been failed for the second season. It has fallen in the depths of mediocre shoujo/josei anime, and as such things go I say: do yourself a favor. Go watch Nodame Cantabile right now, but skip Paris-hen. It will only disappoint.
